Meet Some of the Local Women

We were thrilled this month to see photos and videos from a second “pad drop” to local schools by our sewing group in Kakamega County. Read on to meet some of the lovely women who are working hard to make and distribute the pads! 

Asha Mukoya

How did you get involved in POP and why? I managed to do gender tracking in schools, collecting data of enrollment and dropout. The number of girls dropped was higher than boys. Reason was lack of pads and early pregnancy. That is why I got involved with Power Of Pads.

What have you learned since getting involved with POP? I learned the sewing and packaging.

What is your favourite part of working with POP? To supply more pads to our girls to avoid early pregnancy and dropout

What’s your favourite colour? My favourite colours are orange and white

What kind of music do you like? I like lingala music

What is your favourite day of the week and why? Sunday, I rest and evaluate my work during the week

Irene Barasa

How did you get involved in POP and why? I was invited in a meeting of women to learn the sewing, where I was asked to join the project.

What have you learned since getting involved with POP? I have acquired skills of measuring and cutting pieces of fabrics for making pads

What is your favourite part of working with POP? Learning how to make quality pads and assisting girls and women to make more pads

What kind of music do you like? Gospel

What is your favourite day of the week and why? Saturday, because I go to serve Lord in the church

Adelaide Mulama

How did you get involved in POP and why? Being a community health volunteer… It was important for me to join the project.

What have you learned since getting involved with POP? Finishing and packaging of the pads

What is your favourite part of working with POP? To reach more schools in Western region with free pads

What’s your favourite colour? Favourite colour is orange

What kind of music do you like? I like gospel music
